2018: Meta launches business messaging

Since 2018, it has also been possible to proactively send messages to customers from the customer list in WhatsApp Business. However, companies must already have the users’ contact information for this. Furthermore, the feature, dubbed “Business Messaging,” is relatively expensive for companies. The price is calculated per conversation with a user and varies significantly depending on the country of origin of the WhatsApp Business account. For German WhatsApp Business users, for example, the price is currently €0.11 per marketing message. In India, on the other hand, users pay less than a cent.

2024: Will ads be available in status and channel?

The local advertising industry was correspondingly reserved in its response. While many brands such as Booking.com, Uber, Vodafone, and o2 already offer WhatsApp Business, this is primarily an additional support channel for customer service. This means that customers primarily contact brands via WhatsApp to clarify service issues and receive support. Our opinion: Advertising in WhatsApp must not be invasive

The days of an ad-free WhatsApp are definitely over. After all, the Meta Group has to make money with the world’s largest messenger. Over 2 billion people worldwide use WhatsApp, and the German  phone number vietnam market consists of 44 million users – it simply wouldn’t be economical for Meta to let this potential lie dormant.
